June 2015 – LIZ RUSS

I generally prefer creating landscapes, although I’ve been known to stray into nether regions of abstract art, as exhibited in my Cobalt show last year.  In either style, I love to create visual interest with bold textural brush strokes and lively use of colour.  I aim to show the beauty that exists in the nature and abundance that surrounds us and I often add a twist – a collaged leaf or mixed media cutouts that add humour or draw attention to controversy – such as the infrastructures and scars of human development and the persistence of nature in recapturing what once belonged to the earth.  It seems like a good “conversation” to have.

You can see a variety of my art at www.lizruss.com, at Cobalt Gallery during the month of June, as well as at my new studio gallery at 2359 Queen Street East.
